              Work-At-Home Story #13

Hi my name is Jodi, I live in the country just
south of Syracuse, New York. I have been a stay at
home mom now for almost a year, prior to that I had
worked in a medical center as the housekeeping
supervisor making minimum wage and hating every minute
of it! I have always known that there is a better way
to become financially free and the 9 to 5 job is not
the answer.
I started my business in March after years of
tiredly searching for the best home based business to
start. I have tryed just about everything and my
husband I think thought that I was off my rocker! In
the beggining I know that he was not a supporter of my
decision and couldn't understand what had taken a hold
of me. I really think that he thought something had
taken over my body and mind! As the months went on he
is now my biggest supporter and actually sees the
results that I always knew that I could achieve. That
is the biggest hang up that men have, if they cannot
see some tangible evidence then its not real or its a
scam.I will say now that my husband has seen my
success that he is now my biggest supporter! He
actually loves my products and is one of my biggest
customers! (chuckle Chuckle)
I have seen great results with my business goals
and my family. Most of all my children, I am home now
and that has been a blessing for them and myself. You
never know how much you miss when you are out of the
house at a job. I am now home to help them with their
school work and the summertime is great! No more
babysitting costs and more time and money to do all
those summertime fun activities!
My husband and myself used to live paycheck to
paycheck now he has been able to cut down on his hours
at work. I know that within 2 months my husband will
be able to quit his job and come home where now he
wants to work the business with me!
The best part about the company that I am involved
with is that I can Lifestyle my business,If I go to
the beach my candles come with me. No matter where I
go In my daily routine I can Market my product! Who
doesn't Love Candles? WWW.candlesaplenty.com
I am an entreprenuer at heart and always new that I
was and I am so Grateful To Scent-Sations for there
Incredible Opportunity and the Unique and Cutting Edge
Products that they offer. I wish all the Moms success
in their business's!

Thank you so Much,

Work-At-Home Story #12

My name is Janis Lanz and I am 41 years old with three kids.  When I was younger, I had dreams of a loving, supportive husband and kids.  I actually wanted to be a stay at home mom and take care of my family.  I was a financial consultant with Waddell & Reed before getting married.  Thirteen years and three kids later, I found myself legally separated from a verbally abusive husband and I needed to find work.  But, I had one “problem”.  I loved taking care of my kids and they needed me at home.  My oldest was born with CHARGE Syndrome, which is a group of birth defects that affected his vision, immune system, swallowing, growth hormone, and he is deaf.   With the regular doctor visits and school meetings for his education, there would be no way I could keep a job.  My middle son is ADD and needs a lot of extra attention.  I also have a younger daughter who is precious.
As most of you know, part-time work is hard to find and part-time work from home is even harder, so I begin to look on the internet for something I could do that would not involve travel or going to meetings.  I had to be home.  I found Work at Home United, a wonderful team of parents who were all working from home and loving it.  They partner with a company called Melaleuca, Inc.  Now, I was really skeptical about home businesses:  I had tried two other businesses with well-known companies in the past and failed miserably at both.  I actually lost money.  This time I didn’t have a penny to lose.  I was going to be living on a little child support and some nice alimony that would last only 5 years.
Melaleuca provided me some BIG benefits.  They provided life-changing products that would help my kids be healthier.  That is THE reason I decided to join the company.  After using the products for over 2 years, I started noticing that my oldest son was not sick as much and, most importantly, he didn’t need as many antiobiotics.  And, for him, this was huge.  He was always on antiobiotics for sinus infections or pneumonia.  Right before I found Melaleuca, my middle son was diagnosed with ADD and doctors and the school wanted to put him on medication.  I tried Adderall for one month and Concerta for one month.  Hated both of them; they didn’t work at all.  I have since put him on Melaleuca high-absorption vitamins and supplements and for the past 2 years, he is doing great in school and is catching up.  I also got rid of all the store products in my home that contained toxic chemicals, which can aggrevate ADD.   I became passionate about educating people on the dangers of toxic chemicals in the household and personal care products they use in their homes.  Even cosmetics have some dangerous chemicals in them.
When I learned that I could also earn an income with this great company, of course, I started training with my Work at Home United team.   I am earning extra money that actually provides a huge benefit to my family now because I get to stay at home even though I am a single parent.  Anyone who is looking at a home business and is skeptical, like I was, needs to really keep an open mind and thoroughly research the company they are interested in.   I really believe that most people give up too soon.  There are ways out there for someone to be able to provide for their families.  All you have to do is decide to take action and believe in yourself.  Tell yourself that you are going to make it work and stick with it for the duration.  You should not lose money and you should not have to borrow money for large investments to get started.  Success comes in many forms.  For me, I am successful.  I am still at home with my kids.  I was able to buy a house and I am covering all my bills.  My kids have everything they need and I know as long as I keep working, I will be more successful because I will be home with them.

My journey is not unlike a lot of others out there.  As long as I stay determined and have a positive attitude, and put God first, everything will work out for the best.  I am glad to have found a company with the same values.

Work-At-Home Story #11
I never imagined that I would be a
work-at-home mother, but after the birth of my
son in 2004, I knew I could never leave his side.
My husband instantly felt the same
way and supported my dream of staying home
with our children.

I graduated from college the day my son was born,
so my parentage and my career
began the same day. Since I majored in English,
my natural choice for at-home work
was writing. Surprisingly, I found it very easy to
break into the business. If you
can formulate a good cover letter and attractive
resume, you can get your foot in
the door.

20 months after my writing career began,
we already had our second child and I now
make over $40K a year. From home. In my
pajamas. I love it and wouldn't change this
situation for anything in the world.

Work-At-Home Story #10

I work at home part time for the Home Shopping
Network. Prior to working from home, I worked full time
and went to school full time as well. Most of my paychecks were
going to daycare costs and I felt exhausted. I thought I would
never get a chance to stay home with my daughter.
My husband is an employee for HSN and told me about the
wonderful work at home position they had available when my
daughter was about 9 months old. I applied and I
got the job! I work on a great hourly pay and get lots of benefits.
I love talking to customers about the wonderful products we
carry because I buy our products and I think they are great!
We carry everything from electronics to jewelery to clothing
and a lot more!
If I could do it all over again, I would have applied sooner.
I had got a call months before regarding the job and turned it down.
The job seemed to good to be true. I called back later begging for
an interview. I am so thankful that I am able to stay at home while
earning a great income, making new friends, and having time to
live my life and see my daughter grow up.

They are currently hiring for more work at home agents who live in the Florida and Tenessee areas. Pay starts at 10.00 plus bonuses and you can work a max of 29 hours per week. During the two months of fall holidays, they had unlimited hours and paid $5 extra for every hour you work over
your normal schedule! I love my job, it is so exciting to be able to make a great income without leaving your home. The link below is for those in the 727 and 813 area code (Tampa Bay, FL)

Work-At-Home Story #9
Hi, my name is Heather and I live in Bellflower, Calif. I have been working
at home for 6-1/2 years as an editor. Two and a half years ago I had our son
and then I had a daughter nearly seven months ago.
When I started working from home in 1999, I thought it was only going to be
temporary. My company had just folded abruptly and several people from that
company decided to try their hand at operating a publishing company. They
were only going to publish two magazines to begin with. However, that two
turned into eight within the first six months of publishing. Consequently, I
had to scramble those first few months to get my computer running up to par,
get an office established (I was living and working in one 10'x15' for the
first six months), and learn how to do the job I was doing, since I had
never had that much responsibility in my career. It was a steep learning
curve.
I found it hard to work from home for the first year and a half. Starting up
a new company and working out the bugs of doing so plus the 14-hour days
really were taxing. And not having a computer department to help me with
computer issues meant I had to learn how to solve my own computer problems.
Furthermore, I dealt with loneliness quite a bit. Working from home without
much personal contact took getting used to. My coworker and I, who both
worked from home at the time, found the solitude overwhelming at times and
we would meet for lunch at least once a week just to have some face time
with a friend. But once things were running smoothly and I adjusted to the
change of work environment, working from home became a blessing. I learned
that I didn't have to be at home all the time. As long as I had my cell
phone and I checked my e-mail at least once a day, I could fit work in to my
schedule, rather than fit my schedule around work. I quickly learned to
enjoy the flexibility. I never had a problem with discipline regarding work.
I knew what needed to be done and I did it. I didn't feel compelled to do
other things when I knew it was work time. I subconsciously alloted certain
hours to work and wouldn't deviate from that, sometimes as I said before,
for 14 hours at a stretch, depending on the deadline.
Today, I don't know if I could ever work in an office again. I joke (only
have seriously) that if my company ever folded or laid me off, I would have
to start my own business so I could continue to work from home. Thanks to
the flexibility of the Internet and wireless Internet access and our company
being 100% digital/Internet/e-mail based, I can travel anywhere and still do
my job. This summer I took my two children out of state on a six-week trip
without missing a beat work wise. I just signed up with T-Mobile's wireless
Internet plan (month-to-month) and I would park outside of a Borders store
and get my Internet without having to go inside with the children. They
napped, I read e-mail.
And staying home with my children without daycare is difficult, don't let
anyone say it's not (I work days, nights, weekends, on my husband's days
off, etc), but it's worth every sacrifice I make to hear my son saying new
words daily and watch my baby girl learn to crawl.

Work-At-Home Story #8

My name is Shannon and I live in Kalamazoo, MI.  I have a 14 month old daughter and am currently pregnant with our second child.  Once I became pregnant with our daughter, I was tossing the idea back and forth about staying home.  I knew I wanted to stay home and give my child/children the same attention I got from my mom growing up; however, we depended on my income a lot.  My husband owned his own business so my income as an Occupational Therapist was the only stability we had.  During the pregnancy, my husband decided that he would get out of his catering business and get a stable position as management of food service for a local hospital.  We got by on his income once our daughter was born, but with many different circumstances thrown our way I was looking at having to go back to work.  Then I found the MOM Team online and they taught me how to have my own business from home and make money.  I do not have to sell anything (I'm not the AVON lady...although nothing is wrong with that); I do not have to have an inventory, and there was no risk.  I'm now working on my own time and have been able to enjoy my daughter.  I haven't missed one coo, one step, or one word.  I love working from home.

Work-At-Home Story #7

My name is Nastacha, my husband is Mickey.  We have 3 children.  2 girls 1 boy.  My husband is in radio.  Back in 1996 we moved from Jacksonville, FL to Birmingham, AL  big change.  At that time I just had the 1 girl.  I started full-time work soon after arriving in Birmigham. Then soon after that I became pregnant.  Then I stopped working.  Then soon after her birth, I was pregnant again.

My husband said I did not have to work, that he would do whatever needed to be done to support the family.  But as soon as my last one started kindergarten I was eager to get busy, so I started as a Sales Consultant for a local company her, named The Pink Lady, selling purses and custome jewerly at homes.  It was fun, but did not last long. So a friend told me about a company via the computer, that hires you as an telephone agent taking calls, for like ShopNBC shopping channel.  I applied and got the job.  The company is Work At Home Agent. Now I work for another call center LiveOps they accept calls for info commercials.   These are great companies, so now I work from home, while the kids are at school. I work late night while they are sleeping. And on the weekends.  It's great. And I'm glad I have had the opportunity to share this with you.

Work-At-Home Story #6

Occupation Homemaker

Many SAHM (stay-at-home-moms) fall into a rut and feel bored, lonely, and/or insignificant.  Sometimes the fear of these things even keeps women from staying at home in the first place.  Often, the secular world paints a picture of a mom at home as very quaint; not glamorous like a city job, or rewarding like a passionate career, or entertaining like a hustle-bustle working lifestyle; only simplistic and cute.  It doesn’t usually sound very attractive to young women.  If it isn’t these things that deter a family from having mom at home then it’s the lie that they can’t afford life on one income alone.

I personally experienced some confusion when I first got married and began my life at home.  I had the house organized and just as clean as any other house and yet I still felt bored a lot of the time and was somewhat discontented.  It didn’t make sense to me.  I had been an excellent student and an exemplary worker.  Yet, here at home, I was continuously bored which led to feeling lonely.  I kept wondering why I felt that way.

It wasn’t that I didn’t have enough to do. I had two children with one on the way, I was beginning to teach my 4 year old, I helped my husband run his carpentry business from home, I sang on the worship team, taught Children’s church, cooked and cleaned, etc.  So I had plenty to do.

It also wasn’t that I was just unhappy at home, because I wasn’t.  I was thrilled to be able to be at home with my kids when so many others I knew felt that they had to work to support their families.  I was grateful for the time and opportunity to homeschool my kids and really be a helper to my husband.  One day, my mother finally pointed out to me that when I had been in school I was very regimented with my time.  I kept an organized calendar/journal in which I planned and pre-planned the timing of assignments and events and all they entailed.  Then, each day I would see what was in store and complete everything efficiently and often beforehand.  When I worked, I had a clear and concise position and had the mind-set of being good at my job.  I always completed tasks in a timely fashion and with a cheerful demeanor.

It was then that I realized that my attitude towards being at home wasn’t right.  I was being too relaxed.  I was treating my time at home everyday like I had previously done on the weekends when in school or at work.  I decided to treat my life at home with the kids as my new career; with the kids as my subordinates and my husband as my boss.

I immediately got planning.  I got out a new calendar/journal and allotted time for everything I sought to accomplish each day, week, month, etc.  I scheduled everything:  Housework, errands, cooking, schooling the children, special projects, paperwork, shopping....  I even put reminders to give the kids their baths and change the bed sheets and the fish’s water.  I PLANNED EVERYTHING!

Now every morning I wake up with an agenda.   I have the drive of being able to cross off the things on my list each day.  That helps me conquer the feelings of unimportance because I can see on paper that I am getting so much done.

I don’t get terribly stringent on WHEN things get accomplished in the day.  I know that life with small children doesn’t necessarily fit into strict time slots.  And the purpose of the schedule was not to stress me out or rush us all day.  It is a guideline to keep me on track.

I have discovered that I actually have a lot of time to do almost anything I want.  Being at home with the kids is no longer the reason I can’t do the things I desire to do, (read my Bible, pray, exercise, write, etc.) rather, it’s what enables me to do them.  I had completely eliminated the dull gaps in my day where I would just sit and think about how I had “nothing to do”.

This was such a refreshing change that I decided to carry the concept over to other areas of my life.  For example:  I have a calendar on the wall on which I write out all the suppers that I’m going to fix. I spend one afternoon going through my recipe books and cook books and I plan all the suppers out ahead of time.  This way I know in advance that on the nights we go to church we’ll have something quick and easy to fix, and on the nights we have company we’ll have a larger meal, and on Sundays we’ll have a meal in the crock pot so it’s ready when we get home, etc.  As I write out the meals I also begin to make my weekly grocery lists (while I have the recipes handy).  That way I’m sure to have all the ingredients handy for each meal.  Then, before I go shopping, all I have to do is add the items I need for breakfast and lunch throughout the week and whatever baking necessities I’ve run out of.   I even coordinate them with my grocer’s weekly flyers so that I can save us the most money.  (For one of several references regarding this topic, please see Matt. 25:21.)

Doing it this way may sound like an awful lot of work but it actually saves a lot of time and frustration.  I never have to fret over what to fix for supper and I know we’re eating healthy and cost-effectively.  Besides, I really enjoy the planning part. I like to go through my cookbooks and try new things.

I have found that having this well-organized approach to things helps me do my job with ease and efficiency making it easier to be content and cheerful.  It also helps me get the kids involved.  They work with me each day.  In the morning, when they ask what we’re going to do that day all I have to do is check the book and say “Well, it’s dusting day and then we’ll vacuum and clean the basement”, or something to that effect.  We know what we need to do so we’re able to do it with gladness.  And we always make sure to leave plenty of time for romping, reading, catching frogs, and feeding bugs to the chickens, etc (all things three small boys love to do).

So that’s my secret of being a SAHM. I take my “job” seriously.  With all my time and effort I take care of my home.  My “boss” (husband) knows that his best worker (me) is capable and motivated to do the best job each day.  Now, when I fill out forms that ask for occupation I always smile as I proudly pen my title:  Homemaker – for references please see Titus 2:1-5.

Work-At-Home Story #5

I am Claudine de Nava in Atlanta , GA.   I had 6 weeks maternity leave with each baby (2 kids).  Hubby had to take a night job so to be home with the kids in the day while I continued my day job.  We were desperate to not have to pay daycare costs.  By the time baby #2 came into our lives, hubby was stressed…thus I was stressed.  Caring for babies in day then working at night was hard on him.  I would walk in from work and go straight to the kitchen to cook so that he could at least not have to worry about that chore each night as he headed to his job. I teach at a college and want to homeschool my kids. Feeling guilty about not being with baby and anxious about setting up a homeschool environment for the oldest by her  5th birthday prompted me to work it all out by the time she turned 4 (a year earlier than my goal). I also wanted to give hubby a break. There was always work to do and he did his share of it.

First, I investigated health insurance. Would we be able to get it on our own? I was so certain we couldn’t afford whatever was out there.  After all, group plans are everyone’s goal when seeking benefits.  Surprise, surprise, group plans are marked up 60%. We applied and were approved instantly. We pay 50% less each month on insurance FOR THE EXACT SAME PLAN my job provided us.  That is for the Family plan…not individual.  And it does cover maternity and the payments do not go up if we have more kids as we are now paying for a family of four.

This was all possible because I decided to take my teaching abilities elsewhere: ONLINE.   I now tutor kids for a company out of AZ though my students are nationwide. I also teach online for a college in Alabama and I am in training to do some online course development for the State of GA.   There were actually other online jobs that I turned down. Go to monster.com or other job boards and also just type in keywords on Google.  Sometimes I can’t believe that this actually worked for me. Since I am in education, I was looking up everything I could find that was related to education.  Of course there were costs involved and so I did things a little at a time with the goal of working from home in mind. 1st I bought a new computer at a discount since I knew someone who builds them from scratch (meaning no name brands). Then for a few months I applied for the online jobs. I got the jobs and so kept working downtown as I started the online work while applying for the health insurance.  It was hectic for a few weeks.  I was on 5 payrolls for a short time but I couldn’t quit the downtown job until I knew we had insurance.  Next I purchased DSL service so to have faster access (online is my office now and I need to be prompt and efficient) then someone gave me a printer which meant I had to invest in ink and paper (though I recycle much of my paper).  And I signed up for efax so to be able to receive/send faxes via email.  There are several costs involved, but my salary still outweighs the costs and pays bills for home while I get to stay home.

Hubby is happier because now he can sleep more in the day. The kids are happier because they always have mom around. I’m happier period.  I also get to start homeschooling next year with a clear conscious.

It all worked out because I truly believed I could take my skill elsewhere. I have heard of so many people doing various jobs from home and always thought, ‘yeah that works for them…but what can I do?”

I just kept on doing what I always did: teach.

Work-At-Home Story #4

Almost fifteen years ago when my first son was born I was thrilled to
discover a coupon in a package that was sent home with me from the
hospital for an 11x18 print that told interesting facts about the day
my son was born. I had been disappointed earlier because I forgot to
have my husband buy a newspaper on the day Douglas was born, so this
print was something I had to have. I wanted to record those important
events in his baby book so that we could look back on that day and
remember what the world was like when he was born.

Years later I discovered some software that offered that same
information and saw this as a potential business opportunity. As a
stay-at-home mom I had always wanted to start a home business to
supplement our family's income. This was the perfect solution. I
started at craft shows but didn't have too much luck because my product
was personalized and
had to be ordered, so all of the impulse shoppers who loved my prints
would offer wonderful compliments but would never buy. I also sell
them through my Aunt's flower shop and get a few orders from her from
time to time.

I decided to take the plunge and sell my scrapbook pages online. I
had learned html a while back to create a hobby site and realized this
was something I could do. Scrapits.com is the result of a lot of trial
and error and
hard work. My hope is to offer unique, personalized,
http://www.scrapits.com" premade scrapbook
Pages</a> that are the perfect addition to any scrapbook, baby book or
wedding album.

My business has only been "online" for a few months, but is already
starting to take off.
I encourage any stay-at-home mom who is wanting to start a home business
to follow her dream!
Never give up-patience and persistance is what it's all about.

Work-At-Home Story #3

My name is Allison, from Ottawa, ON, Canada. I am a 31 year old stay-at-home mom with a seven month old daughter. I have recently decided to start up my own Discovery Toys business. Before I was off, I worked in Human Resources making a great salary. However, once my little one was here, I decided I couldn't imagine anyone else taking care of her. My husband and I knew we needed two incomes coming into the home, but paying for daycare and the cost of venturing out everyday was expensive and we would be living pay check to pay check.

I stumbled upon Discovery Toys through an article in the Parents magazine. It sparked my interest and I did the research on-line. Their toys have a life time guarantee and are an easy sell to any mom, grandparent, or anyone who buys for small children in their lives. The investment is inexpensive and you make it back usually within your first month of business. It gives you the flexibility to be with your family and takes away the pressure from the main money maker of the family. Discovery toys is in the United States, as well as Canada.

I enjoy selling the toys and it is a joy watching my little one playing with them. My husband has been on board since day one and helps me market and get business. This has been a great ride, and I look forward to watching my little girl grow-up.

Work-At-Home Story #2

Hi, my name is Debra and I am a medical transcriptionist.  I work from home 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.  I have a 3-year-old daughter who does not attend any preschool or daycare.  Prior to becoming a medical transcriptionist I was an administrative assistant for 10 years.  When my daughter was born my husband and I decided to cut back our expenses and I began staying home.  The first two years of being at home, I did not work.  About a year and a half ago, I decided that since I eventually would return to work (after my daughter was in school) that I might as well do something I liked, not something that I've always done.  I investigated many professions and decided on medical transcription because it has the flexibility of working at home.  I am completely home based, never have to go to an office and in fact have never met my supervisor in person.  I got started after I enrolled in a home study course and studied long and hard for about 6 months.  When I am working, my daughter does crafts, preschool home schooling work or watches a movie.  She has adjusted well and likes to sit in my office with me while I type.  She has a pretend keyboard and amuses herself "copying" mommy.  When I have a conference call meeting I enlist the help of a friend or relative to watch her for a couple of hours and then I return the favor when they need a sitter for a couple of hours.  Working from home has enabled me to still be here for my family while making extra money to have a little freedom with.  I know that some people say there is no way that their child would let them work from home, but I believe that if you plan your work time with their craft, schoolwork or quiet time, it can work.

Work-At-Home Story #1

Hi. I'm Tamara S. from Delaware. I'm 24 and have my own Mary Kay business. I've been a stay at home mom for about 3 years. Before I left the work place, I worked at a telephone answering service for minimum wage. Now I'm making a range of 15-40 dollars an hour. I started my business in January because my husband does seasonal work. When I signed up, I anticipated a 3 to 4 month run to supplement our income.  Now I know this is something I want to do for life.  I love what I'm doing now because it allows me to stay with my son  instead of sending him to a daycare.  For every 10 skin care classes I have held, my son has  played in the same room during 7. I can't imagine working for 8 hours a day while my son was taken care of by someone else.  To me no one is as good as mom.

One thing I do regret is not doing enough research into the company.  I opened my "store" with no inventory because we didn't felt that we should not convert any amount of money from our tight budget to cosmetics.  It's been a lot harder getting established because most of my new contacts would like to take the product home with them right away instead of waiting for a shipment to come in next week.  If I had researched the company more, I would have found out that they are ranked above Ebay in internet sales and #1 in cosmetic sales. With that information I would have been more comfortable about investing in inventory which would have helped my income potential.  My advice to anyone is to make sure before you go into any type of network is to research thoroughly.  I was lucky in that I didn't get burned because of lack of information, but I could have gone a lot further with the information I didn't get before hand.
